The
History and Biography of Breaking Up
Breaking Up
originally formed in early 1998,
but has gone through a few
lineup changes over the years. In
the beginning when the band was
formed in a
small garage in Keystone Heights,
Florida it consisted of : Jeremy
Bobick-
Bass/Vocals, Casey Grice- Guitar,
and Dave Poncher- Drums. After
being
together for almost a year,
Jeremy was forced to leave the
band due to
personal reasons. Anyway,
Casey took over the singing
responsibilities and
two new members were picked up to
make an attempt at replacing
Jeremy, making
the band a Four-piece.
These members were in the
band for approximately 10
months and then quit. Eventually,
Jeremy rejoined the
band, this time on guitar/vocals
instead of bass. Now Jeremy and
Casey split
the singing duties 50/50. This
put the band back as a three
piece with its
original members, (with no bass
player). For weeks the band
practiced and
wrote new songs with no shows, of
course, until one day opportunity
knocked
and the phone rang (all at the
same time.) Breaking Up had the
chance to play
its first show with the new line
up. One problem. No bassist. This
problem
had to be solved quickly.
The answer to the problem
was solved ingeniously.
Rick Grice, Casey's nephew was
added to band on the day of the
first show.
Rick already knew four songs on
guitar so he transferred this
knowledge to
the borrowed bass guitar and
added four more songs to his
list. The eight
song set went by more smoothly
than ever expected and the new lineup
stuck. Rick quickly learned every song and
got to work on polishing his
skills on the
bass guitar. Breaking Up has been
steady working with this line up
for a year
now and there are no plans of
change in the near future. Change
is something
that Breaking Up has become all
too familiar with. So, if any of
you have
become lost in the story of
Breaking Up, here is a quick
rundown:
Breaking Up is:
Casey Grice- Guitar/Vocals
Jeremy Bobick- Guitar/Vocals
Rick Grice- Bass
Dave Poncher- Drums
Since August of 2000, the band
has been working at a fast pace
with a strict
practice schedule, writing new
songs and performing frequently.
Breaking Up
has since independently released
a self titled album with an
eight-song track
listing and the band is playing
shows throughout the North
Florida region
weekly. |
